This week we would love all children, in school and at home, to attempt to re-tell the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. It can be re-written in simple phrases and captions for Reception and, Year 1, we would like you to challenge your self to write a little bit of the story everyday making sure your word choices are excellent and you focus hard on using a capital letter to start a sentence and a full stop to end it. It is also a great opportunity to practice spelling the days of the week accurately and using a capital letter for the name of each day.
My best advice is to break the story into 5 sections and write a short, high quality section each day. Before writing any thing at all SAY OUT LOUD what they are going to say. Practice the sentence orally before picking up the pencil.
Start the next day re-reading what you have written and editing for punctuation before writing the next bit. Listen or read the story daily to ensure children are very familiar with it. Use the pictures for support.

Some of you would like a little more support with English teaching and therefore the link below offers video lessons by teachers. They are great but, in order for your child to get the most from them, they must be completed daily and in the correct order of the sequence e.g. lesson 1, lesson 2 etc
Follow the link and decide which area you would like to have a go at and complete all the lessons within the sequence
