What is it like to be an explorer at home or far away?

The children will consider what an explorer does and then work as geographers to investigate, observe and compare the geography (human and physical features as well as climate) of our locality with an arctic town, Longyearbyen. As artists who have made close observations about this contrasting location, they will develop their drawing and painting proficiency and create work linked to artic lights. We will learn about the adventures of Henry Worsley before looking at other significant explorers from the past including Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.
