The Malvern area is dotted with Roman British kiln sites, particularly in Malvern Link and Hanley Castle, indicating a thriving pottery and tile making industry. Through our artwork we will look at the intricate mosaic designs of the Roman villas and bathhouses and use this technique within both collage and sculpting work.
Throughout our project, we will gain an overview of the impact of the Roman Empire on Britain, including its lasting legacy. We will consider how different historical sources help us to know about Roman Britain and we will research what it might have been like to live in Britain during the period of Roman occupation.
We will find out about the way of life for Romans and will enjoying designing and creating aqueducts which we will test with flowing water, as well as understanding the make-up of Roman roads. We will create our own chocolate Roman roads through writing and following instructions. Finally, we will learn more about what the Romans do in their leisure time before designing and making a Roman chariot for our chosen God or Goddess.
