In design and technology, we aim to stimulate originality, enterprise, practical capability in designing and producing, and the adaptability needed to cope with a rapidly changing society. Opportunities for design exist in familiar contexts such as the home, school, community, and industry, and also in imaginary circumstances, for example being stranded on a desert island.
Children are taught the stages of the design process, from the initial idea, through planning, production, testing and, finally, evaluating. They are also taught how to handle tools safely. Given the right opportunity and the right atmosphere, the children can produce very exciting designs and products.
